Hello Pit readers! We’re delighted to tell you that Pit Issue 16: AMERICA has gone to the printers!

A few months ago, we were approached by food writers Tim Anderson and Anna Ansari (both of them Actual Americans) with a question: would we consider theming an issue around the USA? As you’ve probably gathered, we said yes. Could it be more timely? Here, a chance to dive into the real, regional food of America, uncover fresh stories and find things to love (and maybe loathe) about the food of a country that just can’t stay out of the news.

So, what’s in it? Chiara Arellano tells the incredible and inspiring story of the Black Panthers’ breakfast clubs, Annie Cheng writes about the history of Mississippi Delta cuisine, plus there are pupusas, Big Drinks and… one man’s story of his time spent as a human guinea pig.

Do you know what an egg cream is? How do you make the best deep-dish pizza? And, a fascinating and delicious Pickle Project that’s a real ‘one for the weekend’ scenario.

Our guest editors also show us their chops: Anna Ansari welcomes us into the world of Coney Dogs, illuminating their history and sharing her authentic recipe - it’s a must-try! While Tim Anderson shares an astute and disarmingly funny piece on the dovetailing downfalls of Robert Francis ‘Bobby’ Kennedy Jr., and Richard Michael ‘Dicky’ Barrett.

We’ve learned a lot from Anna and Tim during the production of this issue, and we think you’ll love reading it. Get it while it’s hot!

And don’t forget - by subscribing, you’ll receive a frankly ridiculous £3 off the cover price!
