Hi gang! We’re delighted to tell you that Pit Issue 15: BEANS is here! This is a special issue for a few reasons.
The first is that beans are having a moment. Like, really having a moment. And while they might be the ingredient du jour for influencers (‘What is it with hot girls on Instagram cooking with beans?’ - a friend of Pit), we know they’re far more interesting than that.
Join us, then, as we delve deep into the world of legumes. With contributions covering everything from the joy of seven-layer dip to the significance of beans in Balkan canteens, there’s something for everyone in this carefully baked issue.

We commissioned illustrator Holly St Clair to make foam beans for our cover
This is also the first time we’ve fully partnered on an issue. To us, integrity is everything - we don’t work for free on an independent magazine to make the big bucks. So, if we were going to do this, it had to be done properly. Meaning, it had to be a genuine issue of Pit, made for the enjoyment of our readers. Fortunately, we found our dream collaborators in Bold Bean Co.
In the issue, you’ll find contributions from familiar writers such as Amy Lo-Hardinge, who writes on the significance of a takeaway staple: black bean sauce, plus plenty of new names such as Katie Munnick, who has written an original short story for us. You’ll find the usual mixture of lighthearted pieces, deeper journeys into history and culture, and a set of recipes celebrating the versatility of one of the world’s most loved ingredients. It’s a big, bold issue! She’s full of beans! It’s time to grab your copy!
